Vampires in Advertising

Image
I posted my thoughts about vampires and consumerism awhile back, so I caught myself giggling out loud at the sight of these advertisements geared specifically towards vampires. TrueBlood has created an alternate reality where vampires exist, supporting this alternate dimension with websites like the Fellowship of the Sun Church and American Vampire League, as well as products like the titular TruBlood synthetic blood drink. These devices create a complex meta-text around the TrueBlood series that expands and reinterprets the themes of the show. These targeted vampire advertisements are a part of this meta-text. These ads cleverly propose not to sell us their products directly by using vampires as their demographic. This is an ingenious move, because it makes the product exclusive, sexy and we humans want it just as badly as any fang-banger. We, the thirsty consumers, crave these products and are the true vampire audience for these ads. Brilliant

The Busty Beauties of TrueBlood

I’m back boys and ghouls after a long unplanned hiatus, but I come bearing gifts. Due to a cry for gender equality after I posted the topeless hunks of True Blood, I’ve decided to go tit for tat and post the topless women of True Blood. So here they are in all their nude glory. Enjoy.

Pax's month of gay pride in horror ends on a high note with my examination of homosexuality and vampires in True Blood . As a companion post, I present the hunks of True Blood in all their shirtless glory. Did it suddenly get warm in here?

Vampires, Shifters and Maenads, Oh My! A Complete Guide to the Creatures of True Blood

Thanks to a close friend with a working VCR, I am once again enjoying True Blood episodes. It’s been a while, but the series is just as compelling as ever and my renewed taste of True Blood has inspired me to do a who’s who of the creatures and humans that inhabit Bon Temps. The Supes Eric Northman - The sheriff of area nine, Eric is the owner of Fangtasia, a vampire themed bar in Shreveport where people can go to gawk at the undead. Eric is Bill’s superior and often calls on Sookie, as Bill’s human, to use her telepathic abilities though, as this season has revealed, his interest in her might be more than strictly business. Bill Compton - Nearly 200 years old, Bill is a vampire who moves to Bon Temps to occupy his former family estate. Once there, he meets Sookie and the two have a whirlwind romance, with Bill intrigued by Sookie’s ability to read minds and Sookie thankful she doesn’t have filter out Bill’s thoughts. Bill is a mainstream vampire who refuses to feed on humans and inst...

Bill Compton vs. Edward Cullen in a Vampire Smackdown

Image
The question of who would win in a fight between Edward Cullen of Twilight and Bill Compton of True Blood has been zinging around the net ever since Stephen Moyer, the actor who plays Bill, commented that Edward Cullen “is a pussy! He's the Slim-Fast, Diet Coke of vampires.” Definitely fighting words, but the strengths and weakness of these two immortal studs are going to be put to the test here at Monster Land and the winner will be determined based on the following categories: strength and speed, lethality, age, personal life and diet. Place your bets. Strength an d Speed: Edward is able to criss-cross the forest at amazing speeds and uses his vampiric strength to save Bella from being crushed by an oncoming van. Similarly, Bill is able to zip halfway across the state to kill Sookie’s Uncle Bartlett (who molested her as a child) and makes the Rattrays trailer look like the aftermath of a tornado. Edward does have one advantage on his side and that’s the Cullen family, combine...

Everyone's favorite vampire mini series returns to HBO for its second season June 14. The comeback of True Blood has been hyped by the release of posters with bloodied characters from the show and the tag line "It Hurts So Good." Another series of promotional images intended for billboards plays with blood and shadows and asks potential viewers if they're "Ready to Be Bitten Again?" "Ready for New Blood?" and "Ready for Seconds?" Entertainment Weekly also gave fans a first look at outlines of the season's first three episodes: June 14: “Nothing But the Blood” A shocking murder outside Merlotte’s has Bon Temps reeling. Meanwhile, Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) relationship with Bill (Stephen Moyer) is tested when she learns about Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), and of his involvement in her uncle’s death. Sam (Sam Trammell) recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) as a 17-year-old. Jason (Ryan Kwanten) gets a sud...
